VAHF Dental Clinics

The Virginia Hispanic Foundation is committed to expanding our Free Dental Clinics to better serve the Hispanic community.

The Virginia Hispanic Foundation’s Pasaporte a la Educación program offers mentorship and academic support to Hispanic students across Greater Richmond. The programs were created in 2011 to meet the needs of helping Hispanic students stay in school and on track to graduate. Then after COVID, when the programs resumed in person in the schools, our trained leadership coaches realized many of the students had not been to a dentist. In response, we incorporated dental education into the program and, in 2023, partnered with local dentists to provide free dental cleanings for children aged 14 and younger.

Did You Know?

Hispanic/Latino children are nearly twice as likely to have untreated cavities as non-Hispanic white children. The CDC reports that 26% of Hispanic/Latino children aged 6-9 have untreated cavities, compared to 14% of non-Hispanic white children. This disparity underscores the barriers Hispanic/Latino families face in accessing dental care, highlighting the need for additional support and services.
